Platform Updates Simplify Traffic Data Collection and Analysis Tasks for Local Leaders, Create Safer Roadways Throughout the U.S.

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (June 26, 2025)Urban SDK, equipping critical public services with geospatial AI that empowers decisive action with precision and efficiency, today released an AI-powered solution for local governments, integrating new features in a major platform update. These new tools and interface improvements will enable users, including Urban SDK’s 250+ city and county customers across the U.S., to monitor road conditions and enact traffic safety measures more efficiently than ever before—ultimately redefining how cities are understood and managed by leveraging new, easy-to-use AI technology tools for local government leaders.

Motor vehicle crashes killed over 39,000 Americans in 2024. Total U.S. road fatalities remain higher than a decade ago, and in comparison to other nations today, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. Local governments can investigate safety reports and implement traffic calming measures to reduce accidents, but must manually collect data to understand and address problems—which can be financially, labor- and time-intensive. Urban SDK’s current partners have utilized the technology to optimize resources and quickly, proactively address traffic, transportation and infrastructure challenges, with 24/7 access to updated data from all of their roadways.

This major platform update leverages AI-enabled features that transform the technology from a system of record to a system of action, automating core functions and providing a new level of insights that local leaders can act on:

  • Workflows automate customized data-driven reports and location-specific alerts, flagging important events or trends like speeding in school zones.
  • Data Management Tools offer a centralized console for custom Geographic Information Systems (GIS) data, allowing users to add their own datasets alongside Urban SDK-provided data and view them on maps (with customizable legends, layers and boundary controls) to pull deeper insights into their roadways.
  • Insights Enhancements provides multi-display filters so users can analyze their roadways through a selected combination of conditions like time, location and speed limits. A new summary analytics panel houses data trends, hotspot detection, and workflow results in one hub, so users can easily understand new changes in their community and take action to address them.

“City leaders carry an immense responsibility—to protect lives, build trust, and deliver real results with limited resources. Urban SDK was built to serve that mission. With this update, we’re empowering local governments to move faster, act smarter, and prevent tragedies before they happen,” said Drew Messer, co-founder and CEO, Urban SDK. “We believe this is the future of public service—where AI turns data into action, and technology works in lockstep with the people who protect and lead our communities. ”

Public works and law enforcement officials across the country are utilizing Urban SDK to deliver safer streets and stronger communities.

“Urban SDK has been a great resource to the City of Chesapeake Traffic Engineering Division,” said Eric Reid, an engineer with the City of Chesapeake, Virginia. “We receive several speed complaints every week from various locations throughout the city, and Urban SDK has provided us with quick and accurate speed data to determine whether speed traffic calming is warranted on city roadways. The speed data we get from Urban SDK has made our speed traffic calming process a lot more efficient.”

“Urban SDK allows me to monitor vehicle traffic trends, identify roadways where drivers are consistently traveling above the speed limit and to strategically deploy resources to locations where higher severity crashes are more likely to occur,” said Sgt. Andres Pina, Arlington Police Department. “Urban SDK allows for me to obtain and evaluate data that can be used to evaluate the effectiveness of a utilized traffic enforcement strategy.”

Urban SDK’s new platform updates will enable future AI integrations and task management features for upcoming premium and executive tiers, such as complaint intake form management, AI-assisted reports based on existing government policies, and comparative analysis to measure community impact.
